Daft Punk Remixes

Summary: As awesome and original as their music is, I never liked most of the remixes of Daft Punk songs. I guess it would be like trying to repaint the Mona Lisa. Nevertheless, I have 3 remixes that are good enough to keep around.

DJ Tips: All three run at 128-130 bpm, which is preferable in the club to most of Daft Punk's originals that seem to be around 120-122.

Listen: Daft Punk - Around The World (Kid Dub Remix)

Mike Candys & Jack Holiday - One More Time
Harder Better Faster Stronger (Deadmau5 Edit)

Alvita ft. Levy Pro - I'm So Fly (Original Mix)

Summary: This is a really nice and very new track. I love the drums and the effects in the intro, and the vocals are really something special. The only thing this lacks is a really big sounding anthem when it drops at 1:30. None of the remixes I've heard out there have that, so that might become a project of mine if I can find the right synth.

DJ Tips: 32 bar intro, vocal drop at 1:00, main drop at 1:30.

Tonic - 86 MPH

Summary: As I've said before, I'm not a huge fan of the super obnoxious dutch house sound, but every now and then I come across a track that's a little different and kind of cool. I don't think there's any connection to the band 'Tonic' either, so that's a plus.

DJ Tips: I'll be honest, I'm never going to play this and I doubt many people will anywhere except the West Coast (where kids seem to love dancing to this stuff), but this is a cool track just to have around.

Listen: Tonic - 86 Mph (Original Mix)

Download: Download this from the Soundcloud site.

Flo Rida - Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) (John De Sohn Remix)

Summary: Another remix of a Flo Rida song, but this time, a much newer one. The original was released just over a month ago, co-produced by DJ Frank E and Dada Life. Listen for the sample of 'Oh Yeah' by Yellow (the Ferris Bueller Song).

DJ Tips: I'm going to hold off on this for a while. Over the next few weeks, I plan on putting together a new mixtape project, and I'm sure this will be on it.

Flo Rida ft. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me (Felguk Remix)

Summary: The original has been played out to say the least, but this remix is a great way to bring it back and keep the girls happy. The drop at 1:50 has a great bounce to it.

DJ Tips: The intro and drops seem to be unusually timed and I haven't gotten around to actually figuring out the count yet. I'll update this when I have more info, but for now, just take a listen.

Ray Knox - Corcovado (Hide & Seek Remix)

Summary: This track is brand new, but it wouldn't surprise me if it eventually got some commercial notoriety. It has a lot of the very European sounding elements of 'Stereo Love' but with a big room anthem sound at 2:00.

DJ Tips: Standard 32 bar intro that works well with 'Stereo Love'.

Vandalism - Hablando (Club Mix)

Summary: This is an old one, but possibly my single favorite house track. I like house music with a Latin feel to it, which this track has in spades between the drums and the theme (1:44). One of the best drops I've ever heard.

DJ Tips: 'Hablando' is tricky to mix cleanly into, as the intro is 40 bars (1:15) long and the drums stand out. It's worth playing a decent amount of the track though.

Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit) (Afrojack Remix)

Summary: This is one of the most highly anticipated songs I've gotten in a while. The original version was produced by Afrojack, but a few weeks ago, a video of him performing his own remix emerged on YouTube. The dutch house sound isn't my favorite, so for me, I'm excited to see Afrojack switch it up a little bit. He does a good job placing the original vocals in here, but the electro drop is awesome.

DJ Tips: This song is going to kill anytime you choose. The original is extremely long at almost 8 minutes and the vocals don't drop until the 3rd minute, so check out the club edit I put together.

Rihanna - Only Girl (Mark Pride Remix)

Summary: 'Only Girl' has been growing on me as it gains popularity. The original is cool, but relatively mellow. The best thing about this remix is that the synth leads resemble the melody of the song very well.

DJ Tips: I don't think the song is popular enough yet to command a peak hour spot, but I could see it working well as a late night song. The synths on the 16 bar intro resembles 'Sexy Bitch' significantly, and would mix perfectly with the club version of that song.

Edward Maya - This Is My Life (Extended Mix)

Summary: It seems that 'This Is My Life' is about to be the next big hit from the same artist of 'Stereo Love'. A lot of the sounds are similar, only the theme is different, but equally catchy.

DJ Tips: 16 bar intro and outro. For now, I'd play this early, but I have a feeling this track is about to gain some commercial appeal.

MVSEVM - French Jeans (Dada Life Remix)

Summary: Dada Life has some pretty crazy electro sounds, but this seems to have more appeal to dance to. The best build/drop isn't until 2:40/3:30.

DJ Tips: 32 bar intro.

MGMT - Kids (The Remixes)

Summary: In this post, I'll share with you the three remixes of the MGMT song in my arsenal.
  • Sebastian Ingrosso - Kidsos (Original Mix): This has an awesome progressive-style build with the theme that I'd expect more from Deadmau5 than a member of the Swedish House Mafia, but a great track nevertheless. My only criticism is that there is never any real drop.
  • Robokids - Kids (Original Extended Mix): Better build.
  • Robokids - Kids (Paramond Extended Mix): Better electro drop.
DJ Tips: The two Robokids versions will make your crowd go crazy when they recognize the 'Kids' theme. 'Kidsos' is a little harder to use and takes a while to get to the theme, but can build some real tension in a set.

Deadmau5 & Wolfgang Gartner - Animal Rights (Kids at the Bar Edit)

Summary: 'Animal Rights' is a great collaboration between electro powerhouse Wolfgang Gartner and Deadmau5. This Kids at the Bar Edit has all the same great sounds as the original, only with a different spin.

DJ Tips: Drums for 8 bars, intro drops off at 1:00, synth drops at 1:30. Keep in mind when mixing out, that the synth never fully drops out.

Ce Ce Peniston - Finally (Vandalism Remix)

Summary: This track is another recognizable Top 40 Remix of the Ce Ce Peniston song 'Finally'. It has commercial appeal given that the vocals run throughout most of the song, but Vandalism puts in a considerably heavy electro drop at 2:47.

DJ Tips: The intro doesn't officially drop off for 48 bars (1:30), but it's pretty simple so you can mix in wherever and however you like. If you only want to play one verse, you can mix out to finish at 4:00. If you hang in there till the end, the bass doesn't drop out until there are 16 bars (30 seconds) left.

Mike Candys

Summary: Very few artists have a better signature sound than Mike Candys. Here are a few songs/remixes of his that all share the same awesome synth with the same drop (the Rhythm is a Dancer track is a little different). They speak for themselves.

DJ Tips: The great thing about these is that they have amazing electro-house sounds without compromise because they are easily recognizable. Great for an unexpected peak hour drop.

Swanky Tunes - Across the Light (Original Mix)

Summary: Swanky Tunes created one of the first real electro songs I ever heard, 'No More Fear (Klaas Remix)' a few years back. I never had much of their stuff, but this track is great. At over 8 minutes, it's definitely a long track, but I love the long build up to the climax of the song.

DJ Tips: This track, again, is only for a serious house crowd. The long builds are what makes it so good, but it also makes it difficult to mix in and out of it quickly.

Swedish House Mafia - Miami 2 Ibiza (Vlast Vocal Club Remix)

Summary: The Swedish House Mafia shocked the electronic music scene this summer with their hit 'One' and its vocal counterpart featuring Pharrell. The sequel track 'Miami 2 Ibiza' has just as much energy and potential popularity. It has a lot of things going for it, most importantly vocals to keep the girls happy. The original version, however, has an unusual synth at the beginning as well as a pickup that is difficult for the less experienced DJ to count.

This remix solves those problems and adds even more energy by spending more time on the theme with those crazy synth leads that SHM is now known for.

DJ Tips: The Vlast Vocal Club Remix runs at 128 bpm, as opposed to 125, where the original and 'One' play. It is definitely a peak hour track, and I'd try to play it in conjunction with the original. While this remix is louder and has more energy than the original, it doesn't use complete vocals (despite it's name).

The drums of the intro cut out after 24 bars (0:45), but the song continues to build throughout.

The Shapeshifters - She Freaks (Original Mix)

Summary: This is a new electro-house track from the Shapeshifters. The main synth line is catchy with a good bounce from the drums and bass.

DJ Tips: She Freaks is definitely not for the commercial crowd. It is long and has minimal vocals, so most commercial bottle-service type club audiences won't have the patience for it. That being said, it is a great track to insert in the middle of an exclusively electro-house set.

The first drop at 1:15 has great bass, but make sure to check out the full blown line at about 2:55.

The track runs a little slower than similar ones (126 bpm), but has 32 bar intros and outros (about a minute) each.

Ke$ha - We R Who We R (DJ Mega Man & Panic City Remix)

Summary: This is a great remix of Ke$ha's new song 'We R Who We R'. It's everything you'd ask for from a Top 40 Dance Remix with appeal for a commercial club or college party.

DJ Tips: This remix has much more energy than the original. It makes it possible to successfully play what is a relatively new song during your peak hour. The structure is pretty standard for a Top 40 Dance Remix. It has a 16 bar intro (drops at 0:30), an energetic synth line, and a 16 bar outro.
The track is sped up to 126 bpm from the original 120.

I find that if the gig is long enough, I'll play a lot of these pop songs in their original 120 bpm versions early in the night, and then bring the remixes back during the peak hour. This should mix seamlessly with a lot of the 'Big Room Club Mixes' by DJ Danny Diggz and other artists on CrooklynClan.net.

Taio Cruz - Dynamite (Stonebridge Club Remix)

Summary: Taio Cruz's Dynamite was certainly one of the biggest songs of the summer and fall, but lacked any really good remixes. It's been overplayed, so only the best remix will still fly in the club. Most of the remixes out there aren't very good, or at best, a little too simple. The Mixin' Marc Club Remix is okay, but this Stonebridge mix is by the far the best. Far and away the best part of the song is the synth breakdown at 4:37.

DJ Tips: The first drop is at 45 seconds. The vocals don't come in until 1:45, and this version very long, but this is one of those songs you can definitely get away with playing a lot of. This track definitely has peak hour potential. In the future, I will probably make an edit of the song that still includes the awesome synth breakdown towards the end. The drums are very straightforward so it makes the track would probably go well with any other Top 40 Dance Remix or a more popular house track.

Welcome!

Welcome to ElectroCity, a blog featuring the latest and best Club, Dance, House, and Electro music. While many other blogs exist with music similar to what you might find here, ElectroCity is different in two ways.

First, while the many other blogs I've read have good music, they're just not picky enough. If Deadmau5 makes a song and I don't think it's very good, I won't post it. Most of the work for a DJ consists of sorting through a lot of bad music that lacks the energy necessary for the club. My aim is for the reader to want and download each song I post.

Second, for most of the songs I post, I will include tips and suggestions for how I, as a DJ, typically mix in and out of them. One of the most frustrating things is having a song that everyone loves, but is especially difficult to mix.

Most of the songs I will post will be at least fairly new, but at least at first, I will be posting a few that while not new, aren't well-known but are some of the best in my collection.
